2024, Sporty
Designed the Sporty app to connect people for sports activities, focusing on intuitive navigation and streamlined workflows to enhance user engagement and promote active connections.
Problem Statement
The pandemic underscored the value of physical and mental health, yet finding teammates with matching schedules and interests remains a hurdle for team sports. Existing platforms like Sportido lack public match creation and UK regional support, so I saw a chance to design a better solution.
The Challenge: Connecting Sports Players
Users struggle to find teammates due to clashing schedules, difficulty meeting like-minded players, and missed chances to stay active and social.
My Approach: User-Led Insight
I interviewed four regular sports players, uncovering:
75% prefer team play.
All were open to strangers.
Half felt frustrated by unavailable players.
All found connecting for team sports tough.
This confirmed a clear need for an easier way to link up.
My Solution: Flexible Matchmaking
I designed a platform letting users:
Pick their sports.
Set up public matches.
Join nearby games.
It emphasises accessibility and community.
My Strategy: Focused MVP
I prioritised simple, impactful features—match creation, joining, and search—testing early wireframes to refine the flow.
My Testing: Iterative Refinement
Usability tests on joining a football match showed:
64.8% succeeded easily.
15% took detours but finished.
20% hit snags.
I tweaked button visibility, clarified terms, and fixed scrolling issues.
Final Design
Match Creation: Fast setup for public games.
Search: Filters for nearby players.
Onboarding: Smooth entry to build engagement.
